Monash University has partnered with Aussie tech startup turned global powerhouse Canva, to become the first university in Australia and New Zealand to adopt Canva Campus, and Canva’s largest university partner in the Asia-Pacific region. The landmark agreement will provide free access to world-leading digital design and AI tools, through Canva Campus, to more than 95,000 students and staff across Monash University and Monash College worldwide.
From February 2026, all enrolled students at Monash will gain seamless access to Canva’s full Pro suite – including premium templates, powerful collaboration features, and Canva’s rapidly evolving artificial intelligence tools. The partnership reinforces Monash’s commitment to set up an AI-enabled environment, embracing ethical and responsible use of AI as part of the student experience. Together, Monash and Canva will drive the integration of real-world digital skills, visual communication capability and AI literacy into higher education.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) and Senior Vice-President, Professor Allie Clemans, said the partnership reflects the University’s commitment to ensuring that every student can develop the digital capabilities needed in their careers.
“At Monash, we are committed to giving our students outstanding learning experiences and access to the tools they need to thrive in a landscape defined by technological progress and innovation,” Professor Clemans said. “Canva is already familiar to many of our students, and this partnership takes that to the next level. With access to Canva Campus, students across every discipline will be able to communicate their ideas more powerfully, collaborate more effectively, and build the digital confidence that employers are increasingly seeking.”
Through Canva Campus, students will be able to create engaging presentations, visualise research findings, design for advocacy and creative projects, build digital portfolios and collaborate in real time using Canva’s full suite of AI-powered tools. From brainstorming with Magic Write to transforming complex ideas into compelling visual stories, the platform supports every stage of the learning process and builds the skills students need for contemporary workplaces.
Already widely used across Monash, Canva helps students to elevate the quality of their academic work. The rollout of Canva Campus will further strengthen visual literacy, enhance group projects and embed digital skills across the University.
Canva’s Head of Teams and Education, Carly Daff, said the company was excited to support the next generation of leaders, creators and problem-solvers through this first-of-its-kind partnership.
“It’s incredibly exciting to see Monash invest so intentionally in the skills that matter most for students’ futures,” Daff said. Creativity, visual communication and digital fluency are no longer optional, they’re essential skills in every field. By giving every student access to Canva Campus, Monash is helping them turn ideas into something powerful, build confidence in their own voice, and graduate ready to make an impact in whatever path they choose.”
Monash’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience) and Senior Vice-President, Professor Sarah McDonald, said the partnership underscores Monash’s commitment to delivering sector-leading student experiences.
“This partnership demonstrates Monash’s dedication to ensuring every student has access to the tools, technology and support they need to excel,” Professor McDonald said.
“Canva Campus will empower our students to create, design and communicate with confidence – skills that are increasingly vital across every field. It reinforces our commitment to preparing students not just for their studies, but for their futures, while also supporting our staff to innovate and inspire learning in a rapidly evolving digital world, infused with AI.”
Logan Hoang, a Bachelor of Commerce student at Monash University who was also involved in the Monash Innovation Guarantee program earlier in the year, said the partnership is a major step forward for student creativity and confidence.
“I’m genuinely so excited about the University’s partnership with Canva. Having free access means we can level-up our presentations, advocacy projects and group work using tools that are not just industry-standard but actually fun and empowering to use. For students like me who care about social impact and clear communication, it opens up new ways to tell stories, share ideas and create work we’re proud of. It’s great to see Monash investing in tech that helps build our confidence, creativity and readiness for whatever comes next.”
As part of the rollout, Canva will support Monash through hands-on workshops, panel discussions, student engagement events and collaboration with academic and professional staff to enhance innovative teaching and visual AI and digital capability building.
The partnership aligns with global higher education trends and it . It underscores Australia’s growing leadership in education technology - with a homegrown company and a leading university partnering to equip the next generation with essential digital skills.
Monash Canva Campus will be available to all enrolled students globally from February 2026.
