Motherland Guests at Darkan event in WA, September 2025.

Motherland invites mums across Central Queensland to attend a special Mother’s Day event in Rockhampton celebrating connection, community and the incredible women of rural Australia, while raising vital funds for national charity Motherland.

Motherland is reducing isolation and improving the mental health of rural mums by delivering programs, services and in-person events, alongside a supportive online community. This includes a virtual mothers group program for women with children aged up to 18 — ensuring every rural mum has access to the support she needs, no matter her postcode

Women from across the region and beyond can purchase tickets online to attend the Mother’s Day luncheon, taking place at the Shearing Shed at Rockhampton Heritage Village from 11.30am to 2.30pm on Saturday 30 May.

The event will feature a delicious grazing-style lunch and drinks, meaningful conversation, and a special pop-up marketplace.

Guests will hear from a panel of inspiring rural women sharing honest and deeply relatable stories of motherhood, including Katie Craig, Sarah Henney and Claire Mactaggart, in a conversation facilitated by Motherland Founder and CEO Stephanie Trethewey.

Since launching in 2019, Motherland has supported thousands of women from all corners of the country through its Motherland Connect platform, Motherland podcast, Motherland Village program, Scholarship Fund, events and advocacy. The event will also raise vital funds for Motherland so it can continue to expand its impact across Queensland.

Journalist, Motherland Founder and 2024 Australian of the Year for Tasmania Stephanie Trethewey met her farmer husband while living in Rockhampton and working for 7 Local News in 2013. She said too many Queensland rural mothers continue to face isolation and mental health challenges, and Motherland is working to change that.

“Rural mums are the backbone of our rural communities including the Rockhampton region. They give so much to their families and communities, often while navigating isolation and limited access to support,” Ms Trethewey said.

“That’s why we want to ensure every mother who calls rural Queensland home has access to the critical support they might need throughout their motherhood journey.”

“We are incredibly grateful for the Queensland Government’s support, which allows us to expand our reach and ensure more rural mothers across the state can access connection, support and community when they need it most,” Ms Trethewey said.

Thanks to its partnership with the Queensland Government, Motherland is also offering scholarships for women facing hardship to attend the Rockhampton event free of charge.

The event is open to everyone - whether you’re a rural mum, know a rural mum, or simply want to support this important cause.
