Music Australia Export Fund propels local talent into global spotlight

Music Australia has announced the latest recipients of its Export Development Fund, which aims to fast track the international success of Australian musicians, artists, composers, songwriters, and producers.
This round of investment sees over $1 million invested in 79 projects, supporting emerging, breakthrough and established artists at various stages in their careers.
The Export Development Fund provides matched funding focused on three key pathways to international export, including Performance and Touring, Professional and Artistic Development and Market and Audience Development. The aim is to propel Australian artists into the global is spotlight, while fostering sustainable, long-term careers.
Director of Music Australia Millie Millgate said:
“Investment in Australian talent is vital to ensure our artists can compete and thrive internationally. The Export Development Fund helps showcase Australia’s diverse talent, grow the market for contemporary Australian music, and build a sustainable future for our music industry.”
Among the highlights of the 79 supported projects:
- Marliya (Gondwana Choirs) will perform the acclaimed Australian work Spinifex Gum at the Barbican Centre in London.
- Children’s performer and Auslan advocate Emma Memma (Emma Watkins) will appear as part of the Original Santa Claus Parade in Toronto, with co-performer Elvin Melvin (Elvin Lam), reaching a broadcast audience of 2.5 million.
- Award winning Noongar singer songwriter Bumpy (Amy Dowd) will make her international debut, with the Worldwide Music Export (WOMEX) in Manchester, followed by big band shows in London and Tokyo.
- Afropop artist Adrian Dzvuke will embark on a tour of the UK, supporting Canadian artist MAUVEY, and combine the tour with songwriting and recording opportunities.
- Music in Exile artist and soul singer Tiana Khasi (Tiana Naug) will make her debut performances in India.
- Rising pop star Cody Jon will travel to Jakarta to collaborate with Indonesian pop trio GAC and produce a new single and music video.
- Romy Vager will record a solo album with acclaimed producer Stella Mozgawa at her Joshua Tree studio in California.
Applications for the next round of the Export Development Fund will open next Thursday 10 October 2024, and close on the 3 December 2024, for international activity taking place from 1 April 2025 – 30 June 2025. This includes Classical Next, The Great Escape and CMA Fest.
