National Week of Deaf People - Australia’s oldest Deaf Society celebrates 140 years with significant exhibits at the State Library of Victoria

Expression Australia – the nation’s oldest Deaf Society will begin the National Week of Deaf People at the State Library of Victoria with the launch of Window on Collections: Victoria's Deaf History.

The collection is a historical display of artifacts, including the iconic 1884 Gaslight where the Deaf gathered to communicate at night because Auslan was not accepted in mainstream society.

FREE AUSLAN workshops will be run throughout the week
