New busking policy and digital guide to support Sydney's street performers

Buskers now have easier access to support and location information with the City of Sydney releasing a new digital guide designed to simplify and enhance street performances.
The mobile-friendly tool provides performers with a one-stop platform to access information and stay informed about opportunities and changes across the city.
It offers a more accessible and responsive way for buskers to understand the rules, while also providing timely notifications about activities or issues affecting busking locations.
“Over the last 7 months, we’ve undertaken a comprehensive review of the busking policy and code to ensure we offer buskers more opportunities, flexibility and support while making it easier for them to share their talent with residents and visitors,” Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore said.
“As part of this, our new digital platform gives our buskers a better, more useful way to communicate with us and provide real-time access to locations and support.”
“This year, we’ll spend more time with our busking community, focusing on helping performers understand the updated policy and code, and supporting them to follow the guidelines.”
Following two rounds of feedback with buskers, businesses, residents, key partners, precinct associations and the wider community, the City of Sydney updated its busking code and policy to create more flexible, inclusive and safe outdoor performances.
The updated code increases the number of busking pitches across the city, including George Street, Pitt Street Mall and Martin Place. It also introduces guidelines about safety near light rail tracks, permissible times, sound amplification and performing outside World Square.
“Buskers and street performance play an important role in creating lively, welcoming and engaging public spaces,” the Lord Mayor said.
“We’ll continue to work closely with our busking community and advocate with government to give performers more opportunities to entertain people across our city.”
