New member to join Life Insurance Code Compliance Committee

Life Code Compliance Committee

The Life Insurance Code Compliance Committee (Life CCC) welcomes the appointment of Ms Anna Meulman as its new Consumer Member.

Ms Meulman will join the Life CCC from 1 July 2026, bringing significant experience in consumer law, financial services, complaints handling and advocacy for vulnerable consumers.

Currently a Managing Lawyer at Consumer Action Law Centre, Ms Meulman oversees the consumer and financial services work of a team of lawyers assisting individuals and community workers across Victoria.

Life CCC Chair Jan McClelland AM welcomed Ms Meulman’s appointment and said her experience would bring valuable insight to the Committee’s work.

“Anna brings a strong understanding of the issues affecting consumers, including vulnerable consumers, in the financial services sector,” Ms McClelland said.

“Her experience in consumer advocacy, complaints handling and legal assistance will be valuable as we continue our work monitoring compliance with the Code and promoting fair outcomes in the life insurance industry.”

As a consumer advocate, Ms Meulman has represented vulnerable customers in complex consumer law disputes, including matters involving life and funeral insurance.

She also contributed to the Financial Services Royal Commission and played an important role in strengthening insurance expertise across the financial counselling and community legal sectors through training and engagement.

Ms McClelland also acknowledged the contribution of outgoing Consumer Representative Ms Alexandra Kelly.

“Alexandra has made a wonderful contribution to our work since the Life Insurance Code of Practice came into effect in 2017,” Ms McClelland said.

“Underpinned by a strong commitment to consumer advocacy and education, she helped ensure consumer perspectives are reflected in our work promoting and monitoring compliance with the Code.”

“We thank Alexandra for her service and her longstanding contribution.”

The Life CCC comprises three members: a Consumer Member appointed by the consumer members of the AFCA Board, an Industry Member appointed by the Council of Australian Life Insurers (CALI) and an independent Chair appointed jointly by AFCA and CALI.
