New playground and courts for Alexandria Park
City of Sydney
Alexandria Park is set for a major revamp with new play equipment and sports court upgrades planned for the popular community hub.
New fitness equipment, refurbished amenities blocks and better lights, seats, barbecue areas, irrigation and pathways are also planned.
A budget of almost $15 million has been allocated to this renewal project and a future upgrade of the oval.
“Many city residents don’t have much in the way of outdoor space at home, so parks like this are where locals meet. Making them the best they can be for both organised activities and relaxation helps foster connection and community,” Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore AO said.
“Next door to a school and an oval, this busy park is already popular with local kids and sports including rugby league, cricket, soccer and wheelchair tennis. So, a bigger playground, upgraded courts, accessibility upgrades and a smarter layout will help meet a wide range of community needs.”
Detailed design work for Alexandria Park will now get under way with construction expected to start late next year.
Alexandria Park spans more than 40,000m² and is a significant green space in an increasingly densely populated part of the inner city.
In recent years it has been a popular place for locals to come together for public celebrations, community gatherings, concerts, sport and recreation.

The upgrade is part of a City of Sydney program renewing more than 60 parks of all sizes across the local area. A new sports centre featuring four indoor multipurpose courts and three rooms for programs and events will also open on Huntley Street in Alexandria later this year.
Alexandria Park is located between Buckland, Park and Wyndham streets and Power Avenue in Alexandria.
