North Sydney Council boosts funding for Crows Nest Fest

North Sydney Council will increase its annual funding for Crows Nest Fest by $20,000, taking Council's direct financial contribution to the area's largest street festival to $98,278, following a decision at Monday night's Council meeting.

The additional funding will help Crows Nest Mainstreet Inc. (CNMS), the not-for-profit organisation behind the festival, meet the rising costs of traffic management, security, staging, production and other essential event infrastructure, and will strengthen the long-term financial sustainability of the event.

Council will also waive fees associated with the hire, installation and storage of promotional banner poles, an in-kind contribution valued at a further $16,380, to help build anticipation for the festival throughout the Crows Nest precinct.

Now one of Sydney's premier community festivals, Crows Nest Fest attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year and showcases local businesses, community organisations, schools and performers. It is the largest street festival held in the North Sydney Local Government Area.

The Crows Nest–St Leonards precinct is expected to accommodate thousands of additional residents over the coming decade, and Council says community events and place activation will play an increasingly important role in fostering social connection and supporting local businesses as the area grows.

Mayor Zoë Baker said the funding increase recognised the important role Crows Nest Fest plays in the community.

“Crows Nest Fest has been a much-loved fixture in our community for decades, and it's relied on by both residents and local businesses alike,” Cr Baker said.

“Crows Nest is one of the fastest-growing centres in North Sydney, and this investment will help ensure the festival can keep growing alongside it, continuing to bring people together and support the local businesses that make the precinct so vibrant.”
