NOX Energy now behind Australia’s two largest EV-enabled apartment buildings
Canberra, Australia – 30 October 2026 – NOX Energy and ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr today launched EV charging at The Griffin apartment building in Parkes, ACT, now Australia’s second-largest EV-enabled apartment building. NOX Energy has installed charging infrastructure across the building’s car park, giving owners across its 254 apartments the option to install an EV charger in their designated space.
The Griffin is NOX Energy’s second major launch this year. In March, NOX Energy and Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen launched EV charging at Sierra Hawthorn in Melbourne, which remains Australia’s largest EV-enabled apartment building.
The Griffin’s owners voted to provide a building-wide solution to a practical barrier to EV ownership for apartment residents: access to charging at home. More than 90 residents have already opted in to pay for and install a NOX Energy Intelligent Power Socket (IPS).
The first installation phase is live, with the full building rollout scheduled for completion by mid-November. Residents can opt in at their own pace, and additional chargers can be easily connected to the existing infrastructure without a costly building-wide retrofit. Through NOX Energy’s partnership with MSI, residents can also access the MSI EZgo 15A portable charger, compatible with the IPS, at a reduced price.
ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr said the project would help more Canberrans access electric vehicles.
“As more Canberrans choose electric vehicles, we need practical charging solutions for people who live in apartments. The Griffin demonstrates how owners’ corporations can work together to enable charging infrastructure across a building, making it easier for residents to connect when they choose. It's an example of sensible planning that supports the transition to cleaner transport.”
Member for Canberra Alicia Payne said the new facility was a great example of the Federal Government investing in Australia’s clean energy future.
“This is the second largest apartment-based EV charging facility in Australia, and has been delivered with the help of a $1.5 million Federal Government investment through the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
“The Albanese Labor Government is getting on with the job of preparing Australia for our clean energy future, and it’s great to see facilities like this coming online in Canberra.”
Alena Nolan, Head of Sales at NOX Energy, said the response from The Griffin’s owners shows the appetite for practical EV charging in apartment buildings.
“At The Griffin, over 35% of residents have already opted in to pay for and install a NOX Energy IPS in their own parking space, many of whom do not yet have an EV. That is a strong commitment from this community and shows how much residents value the ability to charge at home. By installing the backbone across the car park now, we can connect more residents as demand grows. Whether they choose an EV today or in years to come, the infrastructure will be ready.”
The Griffin installation is part of NOX Energy’s Accelerating EV Adoption: Unlocking EVs for Strata Residents project, supported by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency’s (ARENA) Driving the Nation Program. The project aims to bring nearly 2,000 EV chargers to strata buildings across Australia. The Griffin rollout takes the project past 750 chargers installed.
Carolyn Cole, Chair of the Executive Committee at The Griffin, said the owners wanted a solution that would serve the whole community over time.
“Our owners wanted something fair and future-proof. Now every owner has the option, today or in ten years’ time.”
The Griffin project supports NOX Energy’s broader mission to democratise access to electric vehicles for all Australians by giving apartment residents a practical path to charging at home and allowing the system to expand as EV adoption grows.
