Sydney, Australia, 16 September 2025 – Australian company NOX Energy has partnered with TOMRA Australia (TOMRA) to deliver home Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points for employees. The initiative supports the launch of Tasmania’s Recycle Rewards container refund scheme, turning waste and energy into drivers of community progress.

In addition to tackling waste, the partnership is helping decarbonise transport. TOMRA’s Tasmanian technicians now service recycling collection points using fully electric vans, charged conveniently overnight at home through 7kW smart chargers installed and managed by NOX Energy, and supplied by global technology company Micro-Star International’s EV division (MSI EVSE). Powered by Tasmania’s high-renewable energy grid, the initiative ensures fleet operations deliver excellent service without the pollution of fossil fuel-based transport.

“Supporting TOMRA’s technicians with home-based charging shows how easily we can integrate EVs into everyday operations and remove barriers to going electric,” said Charlie Richardson, Chief Operating Officer at NOX Energy. “Drivers simply plug in at home, and our platform ensures the vans are charged by morning with all energy usage tracked. This collaboration is proof that we can tackle carbon emissions in transport at the same time as we tackle plastic and can waste.”

Recycle Rewards offers Tasmanians a 10-cent refund for every eligible drink container returned. In just four months since launch, locals have returned over 30 million containers, showing strong community support for reducing litter and rewarding recycling.

Shaun Watson, Operations Manager at TOMRA, added, “We’re thrilled to support the Tasmanian Government's container refund scheme in a way that maximises its positive impact. We’re reducing litter and rewarding Tasmanians for recycling while cutting our carbon footprint by using electric service vehicles. TOMRA has set ambitious, science-based targets to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Reducing our emissions is therefore a top priority, and we are committed to continuously identifying initiatives that lower emissions across our entire value chain.”

MSI EVSE’s smart EV chargers are weather-proof, highly reliable, and fully integrated into the NOX Management System. Through this partnership, employees benefit from easy, reliable charging, while NOX Energy oversees procurement, installation, and ongoing management, including energy monitoring, automated billing, reporting, and load balancing.

“MSI is proud to supply the smart charging hardware for TOMRA’s new EV fleet in Tasmania. Our chargers are designed to be user-friendly and reliable, which is perfect for supporting on-the-go field technicians. It’s wonderful to see our technology empowering a program that delivers environmental benefits on multiple fronts,” said Raymond Hsieh, Sales Manager at MSI EVSE.

This initiative connects container recycling with low-emission transport, ensuring environmental gains are delivered across waste reduction and fleet operations. It demonstrates how public programs strengthened by coordinated partnerships can create practical benefits for Tasmanian communities.
