Penrith Return and Earn Depot is on the move

For almost seven years, Penrith Return and Earn Depot has been a familiar part of life for the local community; a place where residents have returned almost 110 million drink containers and supported good causes while helping to protect the environment. Soon, that much-loved depot is moving to a new home.

Operated by Vinnies NSW, Penrith Return and Earn Depot will close at its current location on Coreen Avenue on 31 May and reopen on 9 June at a new warehouse located at 7 Pullman Place, Emu Plains.

The depot will stay in the Penrith City Council local government area, continuing its strong connection to the community it proudly serves.

Since opening, the depot has helped residents, community groups, schools, sporting clubs, charities and businesses turn their bottles, cans and cartons into a valuable resource – earning refunds and helping the environment – and created local employment opportunities. All activities that reflect Vinnies NSW’s commitment to dignity, inclusion and community support.

Phil Coyte from Vinnies NSW said the decision to move was about protecting that legacy while planning for the future.

“This depot has grown alongside the Penrith community. We’ve seen families come through, community groups fundraise and locals take pride in doing the right thing for the environment,” he said.

“Moving to Emu Plains allows us to continue that work in a space that better supports the volume of containers returned, while staying close to the community that has made this depot what it is.”

James Dorney, CEO TOMRA Cleanaway, network operator for Return and Earn, is looking forward to seeing the depot continue to grow and deliver strong impact for the local community.

“We’re pleased to see the depot continue its journey with a new home in Emu Plains, maintaining the strong community connections it has built over time.

“The work Vinnies NSW does through this depot shows how Return and Earn can deliver environmental outcomes while also creating local jobs and supporting communities,” he said.

Residents are encouraged to plan container returns around the temporary closure period, with the depot due to reopen at its new Emu Plains location on 9 June 2026.
