Practical completion milestone reached for Noosa Day Hospital

Cura Day Hospitals Group (Cura), one of Australia's leading private hospital operators has reached practical completion on its purpose-built Noosa Day Hospital, with the facility set to welcome its first patients at the end of August this year.
Located within the Noosa Specialist Medical Centre on Hofmann Drive, Noosa Day Hospital is Cura's 39th hospital nationally and its third day hospital on the Sunshine Coast, joining Sunshine Coast Day Surgery at Maroochydore and Kawana Private Hospital.
The hospital spans a single level and features three operating theatres, supported by seven first stage recovery beds and ten second stage recovery recliner chairs. The facility also includes 130 open and undercover car parks, a patient drop-off zone as well as dedicated ambulance bays.
Cura Day Hospitals Group Chief Executive Officer, Peter Freeleagus said reaching practical completion was a significant milestone for both the company and the local community.
"With construction now complete, we are progressing into the final fit-out and commissioning phase ahead of welcoming our first patients on 31 August.
"This is the first standalone multidisciplinary day hospital in Noosa and it fills a genuine need for the town’s growing and ageing population where nearly 30% of the population is aged 65 or older. Services such as ophthalmology and gastroenterology, including colonoscopy procedures will keep essential health services within the local community rather than requiring patients to travel elsewhere,” Mr Freeleagus said.
Mr Freeleagus also confirmed that Stephanie Adams had recently commenced in the role as CEO/Director of Nursing for Noosa Day Hospital.
“Stephanie brings extensive experience in day hospital leadership. Most recently, she served as General Manager and Finance Manager of Southern Cross Northland Surgical Centre in New Zealand where she led the establishment and commissioning of a new hospital, including five operating theatres and consulting suites.
“She has forged an enviable career for her strong track record in delivering new surgical services as well as her leadership across clinical governance, accreditation, workforce and financial performance," he said.
Ms Adams said what sets the hospital apart from other medical facilities in Noosa is that it has been purpose-designed from the ground up, rather than retrofitted into an existing space.
"The hospital has been built as a custom-designed space, incorporating the latest technology to create a more efficient environment for doctors, staff and patients alike.
“Once we are fully operational, we will employ around 60 staff, we are fortunate to have filled many of the key clinical roles and we will continue to recruit administrative and clinical staff when the hospital is fully operational.
“It’s interesting to note that many of our new staff already live locally but have previously had to travel outside the region to work in their chosen medical field so it’s great that we can keep this talent local for the benefit of our community,” Stephanie said.
Local commercial builder Integal Constructions has constructed the majority of the buildings in the Hofmann Drive based Noosa Specialist Medical Centre.
Project Manager Mike Dawson said the hospital represents a total investment of $9.5 million in construction costs and involved around 200 workers during the build.
“We are incredibly proud of the Noosa Day Hospital Project, we’ve been responsible for its design and construction which involved numerous challenges coordinating various services and external contractors.
“It’s a real credit to our local team and contractors that we've achieved completion on time and within budget. We’re proud that all contractors engaged on the project are local businesses including Carseldine Air Conditioning, Huff Electrical, BA Group Plumbing, Emrok Medical Gas, KPP QLD and Mode Architects.
“Supporting local suppliers throughout the project ensures that money is kept in the local Noosa community. It's been a brilliant team and the results speak for themselves,” Mike added.
