Major rural health group, Abby Health, is holding a major conference for 60 doctors (GPs) and clinicians at the Broken Hill Civic Centre from September 23 to 25, 2025, to extend and improve its services across Australia.

The conference, which includes workshops and speeches by rural health experts, marks a milestone in the improvement of rural health through the largest telehealth platform in Australia.

Caring for more than 200,000 Australians, Abby Health, is an online clinic operating 18 hours a day, seven days week, for people in rural areas where traditional health services are under pressure through lack of staff and resources to treat patients with continuity and care.

A clinic of Specialist GPs (Fellows of The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM)) and highly qualified Nurse Practitioners, Abby Health, launched from a 130-year-old accredited medical clinic in Broken Hill where co-founder and chief medical officer Dr Ramu Nachiappan has been practising for 36 years. Dr Ramu Nachiappan recognised the need to provide efficient and reliable healthcare for people in regional areas, where there are diminishing health services.

Dr Nachiappan said “Our conference will significantly boost the presence of online health services in regional Australia, where people can access primary care without the need to drive for many hours to the cities for appointments.

“We will be providing the latest techniques and information for our network of doctors and nurse practitioners at the conference, while ensuring they all continue to comply with the highest standards of care in line with RACGP accreditation”, he added.

Abby Health is designed to provide timely continuity of care for patients by accredited medical professionals who have access to their medical history, solving the issue where medical services are fragmented and simply unavailable in regional areas.

Co-founder and chief of product, Mr Charlie Veitch, said “We are on a mission to restore long-term primary care through an online first clinic, staffed by leading medical practitioners who are using the latest technology, including Artificial Intelligence, to understand each patient.

“The core resource of our clinic is access to patients’ personalised Abby Health records where our doctors can review medical histories and provide bespoke care for their individual issues. We are not a booking platform but a valuable medical service bridging the gap left by diminishing resources in the traditional public system”, added Mr Veitch.

Anchor investor in the fast-growing service is the well-known Albert Family’s Impact Venture Fund.

David Albert, Albert’s CEO said “Abby Health reflects our philosophy of investing in companies that make a real impact on the community, in this case regional areas where there is a growing demand for medical services that are not easily accessible.

“We believe Abby Health will play an increasingly important role in the future provision of health services in Australia, especially in regional areas”, he added.

Abby Health is operating in all areas of Australia and will soon introduce an AI-powered care plan and follow-up platform to provide on-going support to patients during the time in-between appointments, helping clinicians achieve a deeper understanding of patient’s symptoms. Abby Health is extending its service to predominantly patients aged between 25 and 60 years of age who are seeking access to over 200 doctors and clinicians who want long term care, on-demand.

Mr Veitch said “the vast majority of medical issues are dealt with online by our 200 doctors and clinicians, while more complex cases, especially in the mental health area, are referred to specialists or in-person care.

“Telehealth is playing an increasingly important part in the future provision of medical services in what is the world’s most sparsely populated country in the world, filling the yawning gap in Australia’s medical system”, he concluded.
