Primary school warriors urged to rise

The NSW Office of Sport has issued a reminder to primary schools to register in the first ever Rising Warrior primary school division at this year’s Winter Warrior at Lake Keepit Sport and Recreation Centre.

The popular adventure race returns in August and sees students from across NSW put their strength, stamina and teamwork to the test over a 15-kilometre adventure race that features more than 25 obstacles including mud pits, log carries, slip and slide, and paddle.

Students compete in teams of six across three divisions – boys, girls and mixed – for the title of Winter Warrior with prizes awarded for the best dressed team.

With primary school students eligible to compete for the title of Rising Warrior for the first time, the Centre is aiming for a record number of participants in 2026.

The Rising Warrior primary school division features a course half the size of the Winter Warrior course and will be held on Tuesday, 11 August with the Winter Warrior secondary school student division held on Thursday, 13 August.

Office of Sport Deputy Secretary Adam Berry said:

“Winter Warrior is the Office of Sport’s adventure race that is ultimate test of endurance, resilience and teamwork for students.

“We’re excited to host Winter Warrior again in 2026 and include primary schools as part of the Rising Warrior event for the first time.

“We’re confident that Winter Warrior 2026 is going to break records and urge local schools to register now before it’s too late.”

Lake Keepit Sport and Recreation Centre Program Coordinator Fiona McKnight said:

“The event celebrates the spirit of determination, participation and resilience, encouraging students to become a "Winter Warrior" by stepping outside their comfort zone, supporting their peers and challenging themselves against the beautiful backdrop of Lake Keepit.

“For the first time in Winter Warrior history, we’re including primary schools through the Rising Warrior category.

“This exciting new division gives Years 3 - 6 students the opportunity to participate in a safe, supportive and exciting adventure race.

“So, register your school for the first ever Rising Warrior to be a part of history and an experience your students will never forget.”
