Public hearing for Hume Circle Precinct inquiry

Parliament of Australia

The Joint Standing Committee on the National Capital and External Territories (NCET) will hold a public hearing on Friday 11 September 2026 as part of its inquiry into the National Capital Plan (NCP) Amendment No. 102 – Hume Circle Precinct.

Chair of the NCET Committee, Alicia Payne MP, said the public hearing will provide the Committee with an opportunity to hear evidence from a range of stakeholders with an interest in the proposed amendment and broader planning considerations for the Hume Circle Precinct, including community infrastructure, open space, transport and utilities.

“This hearing will provide local residents affected by the proposed Hume Circle development an opportunity to raise their concerns directly with the NCET Committee.

The Committee has received submissions from a range of individuals and organisations and is looking forward to hearing directly from stakeholders at the public hearing.

Public hearings are an important part of the inquiry process, giving the Committee an opportunity to explore issues in greater detail and better understand the different perspectives on the future of the Hume Circle Precinct.

The evidence provided by witnesses will help inform the Committee's consideration of the public consultation processes undertaken by the National Capital Authority, as well as the broader strategic planning framework that applies to the Precinct.

The Committee will have the opportunity to question the National Capital Authority, the ACT Government Department of Planning and Sustainable Development, planning and development stakeholders, and representatives of community organisations, including several residents associations and individuals during the hearing," said Ms Payne.

Details of the public hearing, including the program and witness list, are available on the Committee’s website. The hearing will be audio only broadcast live at aph.gov.au/live.
