6 November, 2025, Brisbane; Inspired by the evocative work of Australian artist Cressida Campbell, Academy of Queensland Ballet presents Soirée—its annual season of performances uniting visual art, dance, and live orchestral music opening tonight, Thursday 6 November through to 8 November 2025 for four performances only at Queensland Ballet’s home, the Thomas Dixon Centre.
Presented in collaboration with Philip Bacon Galleries and Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, Soirée brings to life the works of Cressida Campbell, whose distinctive woodblock prints of interiors, landscapes and still life scenes have inspired a new suite of choreographic works.
Celebrated for her ability to find beauty in the everyday, Campbell’s art is known for its quiet depth and extraordinary detail. These artworks become living, moving expressions through new dance pieces by Australian choreographers Natalie Weir, Paul Boyd, and emerging young choreographers from Queensland Ballet Academy’s Pre-Professional Program.
Accompanied by live music performed by Camerata, Soirée is both a tribute to artistic cross-pollination and a platform for the next generation of ballet artists.
Director, Academy of Queensland Ballet, Christian Tátchev, said Soirée celebrates emerging dance talent alongside the evocative work of one of Australia’s most significant living artists, Cressida Campbell.
“This collaboration shows the depth of creative potential and is testament to the possibilities that unfold when artistic disciplines unite,” Tátchev said.
Audiences will also enjoy the Academy Défilé, a rare opportunity to see all levels of Academy students on stage in a sweeping, elegant presentation of classical technique and ensemble artistry.
This performance season is made possible through the generous support of Philip Bacon AO, a longstanding champion of Australian arts, whose commitment to fostering young talent and honouring great visual artists lies at the heart of this project.
