Recycle, earn and give back with Return and Earn at Gulgong
Return and Earn
Gulgong residents are enthusiastic supporters of Return and Earn, contributing to nearly 6 million drink containers returned through the Saleyards Lane Gulgong Return and Earn machine.
Residents can continue to help reduce local waste by bringing their bottles, cans, and cartons down to the Return and Earn machine to get a 10c refund back for every eligible container.
“Whether you’re saving for something special or supporting a cause close to your heart, it’s an easy way to earn refunds while helping the environment,” said James Dorney, CEO of TOMRA Cleanaway, network operator for Return and Earn.
More than 15 billion drink containers have been returned for recycling through the network of over 660 return points across NSW since Return and Earn began, resulting in over $1.5 billion in container refunds back in people’s pockets.
The Gulgong machine is located in Saleyards Lane, just past the turn off to Spring Creek Road. It is open from 8.00am to 6.00pm daily.
Eligible containers can be returned through either of the machine’s chutes without the need to pre-sort glass containers from plastic and aluminium ones, making it quicker than ever to recycle.
Recyclers can print a voucher for the refund amount, which can be redeemed for cash or purchases at Ahmedi’s SUPA IGA Gulgong, or they can opt for payment directly into their bank or PayPal account using the Return and Earn app.
Locals can also donate their refund to one of over 500 donation partners listed on the Return and Earn app. There are a variety of fantastic organisations supporting the Gulgong community, including Little Wings, who provide air and land transport to seriously ill children and their families to access lifesaving medical treatment and Can Assist Mudgee, who provide financial assistance to cancer patients in Mudgee and surrounding areas.
Alternatively, recyclers can donate to the current statewide donation partner, Jeans for Genes, to support research into treatments and cures for children’s genetic conditions.
Return and Earn has become a key fundraising channel for many charities and community groups in NSW. Over $91 million has been raised from donations and fees from hosting return points since the scheme launched in 2017.
