JULY, Sydney – A new study will have you raring to get the rubber gloves on and dive into spring cleaning this month.

The study found that Aussie kitchen floors are harbouring thousands of bacteria, including Staphylococcus hominis, Kocuria kristinae and black mould.

Taking swabs from four typical Australian homes, Vileda H2PRO put our cleanliness under the microscope and discovered that we’re welcoming more than just family into our homes. Despite common cleaning efforts, bacteria and mould more commonly associated with serious illness were found lurking on our kitchen floors.

The study found that the bacteria aren’t just contained to our kitchen floors, also revealing that we’re popping these hidden horrors into our mouths with 60% of Aussies admit to eating food that’s fallen on the kitchen floor[1].

Nikki Zarra, Vileda H2PRO spokesperson said, “While the results of this study sound terrifying, everyday exposure to bacteria is normal but consistently high levels - particularly in food preparation areas - can increase health risks, especially for children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems.”

A recent Kantar study[2] found that 44% of Australians are now opting for a big clean vs smaller, more frequent cleans.

These habits, combined with subpar cleaning tools, could be putting households at risk. In response, Vileda, a global leader in branded household cleaning, created the Vileda H2PRO floor cleaning system, designed to redefine the standard in household hygiene, sustainability, and convenience.

With its patented two-tank design, the Vileda H2PRO ensures floors are cleaned with only fresh water - separating clean and dirty water completely. Its flat mop system features ergonomic manoeuvrability and an automatic wringing mechanism for effortless, strain-free use.

And it’s not just clean, it’s green. The H2PRO’s water-saving technology uses just over one litre of water to clean up to 60m², cutting water use by up to 75% compared to traditional mops.

Nikki said, “We know Australians are time-poor and looking for cleaning solutions that are not only effective but also effortless. The Kantar research shows a major consumer need is for tools that save time and effort by reducing the number of steps to get a job done right. The Vileda H2PRO was designed precisely to meet this need. We’re proud to bring this revolutionary system to Australian homes, empowering households to achieve a higher standard of hygiene with greater convenience.”

Key features of the Vileda H2PRO include:

  • 100% clean & dirty water separation: This patented design directly addresses a key gap in the market, where consumers seek "bacteria-free confidence" that germs are not just being spread around the floor[3]. By ensuring only clean water touches the mop, the H2PRO delivers a superior, hygienic clean every time.
  • Water-saving technology: Using just 1.2 litres of water to clean up to 60m², the Vileda H2PRO reduces water consumption by up to 75% compared to traditional mops. This feature is ideal for the 19% of environmentally conscious Australian cleaners, a segment identified by Kantar as "Ecos”, who actively seek sustainable solutions that reduce their impact on the planet.
  • One-Hand Operation: Ergonomically designed for easy handling and wringing, the Vileda H2PRO allows for effortless cleaning
  • Compact, user-friendly design: Slim and easy to store, making it ideal for small homes and convenient for everyday use.
  • Microfibre technology: Machine-washable microfibre pads deliver a streak-free finish while removing stubborn dirt from various surfaces.

The Vileda H2PRO is available to Australians now, exclusively at Bunnings Warehouse retailing for $79.00 RRP. Refills of the microfibre pads are also exclusively available at Bunnings Warehouse for $14.50 RRP
