Rural Fire Service Association President Scott Campbell has welcomed the opportunity to celebrate RFS volunteers during National Volunteering Week starting on Monday (18 May).

He said NSW RFS volunteers, the largest volunteer firefighting group in the world, worked all year to protect and support their communities.

“Volunteering is incredibly important for society, and I would like thank all RFS members for giving up their time to help out other members of our community,” he said.

“While volunteering can take many forms and is incredibly rewarding for participants, it is important to acknowledge when people go above and beyond for others as RFS volunteers so often do.”

The NSW RFSA advocates for more than 40,000 volunteers and provides benefits to its members including events, scholarships, equipment grants for brigades and mental health support programs.

The RFSA has recently completed the first round of its Member Fuel Giveaway initiative with 45 members receiving $200 fuel vouchers. An additional 46 vouchers will be provided to members over the course of May and June.
