Sack the eSafety Commissioner, abolish the Commission and replace it with a real online child protection agency

Family First National Director and NSW Legislative Council candidate Lyle Shelton has called for the immediate dismissal of eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant and the abolition of the eSafety Commission, following reports it has threatened social media platform X with a $910,000 fine over an article scrutinising the employment of a radical LGBTQA+ activist with the Australian Medical Association Victoria.

 

Mr Shelton said the latest action confirmed the Commission had abandoned its original purpose of protecting children online and instead become a taxpayer-funded censorship agency policing political debate about gender ideology.

 

"The eSafety Commissioner has no business trying to silence public discussion about radical LGBTQA+ activism embedded within influential institutions such as the Australian Medical Association," Mr Shelton said.

 

"Australians have every right to know who is helping shape the culture of our peak medical bodies and whether activists promoting contested gender ideology are exercising influence within those organisations.

 

"The public interest is served by scrutiny, not censorship."

 

The Australian reported that the Commission has ordered X to remove an article by US journalist Genevieve Gluck concerning an AMA Victoria employee whose publicly available online material included graphic sexual content and whose role involves liaison with AHPRA and medical colleges.

 

"The question is why the Commonwealth is using taxpayers' money to suppress reporting on matters of legitimate public concern while protecting producers of pornography like the AMA employee.

 

"The Commission's priorities are completely back to front."

 

Mr Shelton said the Commission had repeatedly pursued cases against critics of gender ideology, only to suffer a string of legal defeats.

 

"This is now a pattern. The Commissioner keeps trying to censor people raising legitimate concerns about gender ideology, and the courts keep telling her she has exceeded her powers."

 

"Millions of taxpayer dollars have been squandered pursuing ideological censorship instead of protecting vulnerable Australians from genuine online harm."
