The AFCM is one of the world’s most loved classical music festivals, and 2026 marks an historic new chapter as the internationally acclaimed event settles into its new home in Cairns–Gimuy.
FIRST THREE SUPERSTAR MUSICIANS ANNOUNCED FOR 2026:
In another exciting first for the Festival, three world-class artists have been revealed ahead of the full program -
• Piers Lane – piano (Australia/UK)
Internationally acclaimed and North Queensland–born, Piers Lane is AFCM royalty, a former Artistic Director and beloved audience favourite. Renowned for his warmth, brilliance and curiosity, Lane has appeared with leading orchestras around the globe and in recital at major venues including Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall and the BBC Proms. His return to AFCM in 2026 is set to be a highlight for music lovers everywhere.
• Charlotte Miles – cello (Australia/Germany)
At just 23, Charlotte Miles is one of Australia’s most electrifying young artists. Now based in Germany, she stunned audiences at her AFCM debut in 2023 and has already amassed more than 100 Australian and international competition prizes, including the Special Prize of the Mozart-Gesellschaft München at the 2024 ARD International Cello Competition. Reviewer Gillian Wills wrote: “Miles is so good that every note her cello sings deserves to be heard.”
• Stefan Dohr – French horn (Germany)
Widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest horn soloists, Stefan Dohr is Principal Horn of the legendary Berlin Philharmonic and a performer in constant demand with top orchestras across Europe, Asia and the Americas. 2026 marks his AFCM return after a stunning debut at this year’s Festival.
