Global energy company Sinopec has officially opened its first retail petrol station in Australia, marking a significant milestone in its international growth and commitment to supporting local communities.

Located on the busy Nepean Highway in Frankston — the gateway to the Mornington Peninsula — the new service station reflects Sinopec’s confidence in Australia’s economy and its long-term commitment to supporting local growth, cleaner energy and sustainable development.

Sinopec’s vision: cleaner energy, better life

“Sinopec’s mission is simple, to bring green and premium energy to Australia and to the wider communities we serve,” Speaking at the opening ceremony, Sinopec Australia General Manager Mr YANG Boyu highlighted the company’s global vision and commitment to delivering premium, low-carbon energy to Australian communities. “Through our global vision of ‘Cleaner Energy, Better Life’, we are investing in projects that deliver environmental and economic benefits, while deepening our long-term partnership with the Australian people.”

Supporting Australia’s local communities

Choosing Australia’s most supercharged suburb, Frankston, as the location for its first Australian petrol station demonstrates Sinopec’s foresight and confidence in the nation’s economic future. Strategically positioned along the Nepean Highway, the new service station provides premium fuel, local employment opportunities and a modern retail experience, while also supporting community initiatives such as Frankston’s Accessible Beach program.

Frankston City Mayor Kristopher Bolam JP congratulated Sinopec on the opening and acknowledged the company’s proactive community spirit.

“Frankston is proud to welcome Sinopec, a global company investing in our city, creating local jobs and strengthening essential infrastructure,” Mayor Bolam said. “This service station will be the first thing people see when they drive into Frankston and onto the Peninsula, a symbol of confidence and partnership.”

Mayor Bolam noted that approximately 21,000 vehicles travel along Nepean Highway daily, equating to nearly 8 million cars each year, underscoring the strategic importance of the station’s location and visibility.

A decade of partnership: celebrating ChAFTA

The launch coincides with the 10th anniversary of the China–Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA), a decade that has strengthened trade, investment and mutual understanding between the two nations.

“Sinopec’s entry into the Australian retail fuel sector represents not only the company’s international vision but also the new vitality of China–Australia economic cooperation,” Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Melbourne, Mr FANG Xinwen, said.

A sincere opening gesture

The opening of the Frankston station marks not only the first step in Sinopec’s Australian journey but also the beginning of a long-term partnership with the community. To celebrate the milestone, Sinopec offered an opening-day promotion of just 98.9 cents per litre for unleaded petrol and premium diesel, drawing a large turnout of enthusiastic local motorists.

This sincere gesture reflects Sinopec’s belief that actual investment begins with community connection, trust and shared prosperity, principles that will guide its expansion across Australia in the years ahead.
