Cowgirls in the Capital Cocktail Brunch returns for Mount Isa Mines Rodeo presented by Akubra

It’s the cocktail party with a twist of Outback Queensland glam that was the hottest ticket at last year’s Mount Isa Mines Rodeo, and tickets will go live for the 2026 Cowgirls in the Capital Cocktail Brunch on Friday June 5 and 10am. IMAGES AND VISION HERE

Happening Saturday 8 August, from 10:30am to 12.30pm at the new Cattleman’s Bar, this glorious brunch gathering brings women together to connect, celebrate, and raise a toast to the Isa Rodeo – all with a side of sparkle and sass.  TICKETS ON SALE 10am FRIDAY JUNE 5 at www.mountisarodeo.com.au

The brains (and boots) behind the idea, local graziers Hannah Hacon, Granada Station and Shelley Curr from Yelvertoft Station.

“Shelley originally came to me with the idea to host a Cowgirl Brunch. She thought it would be a great excuse to frock up and get all the girls together during rodeo time,” said Hannah. “At the same time, I was sketching ideas for the new Cattleman’s Bar, so we joined forces and Cowgirls in the Capital was born.  The brunch, the bar…. it all came together through a shared vision, and a love of Isa Rodeo!”

“The truth is, we don’t often get the opportunity to really doll ourselves up and wear something fabulous with a rodeo and western twist. So, we thought, let’s create an event to do exactly that. A chance to connect with other incredible women and raise a glass to everything that makes Isa Rodeo so special.”

Guests will enjoy two complimentary cocktails to get the party started (bar open after that – giddy-up!), a gift pack, charcuterie boards, a custom branded silk scarf, lucky door prizes, and the best view of the rodeo action on the famous Kalkadoon arena. Tickets are just $80 per person (rodeo gate entry not included) – and this boutique brunch has limited capacity, so early booking is essential.

Need some tips on what to wear on the red dirt rodeo runway?

Think Rodeo Glam, and don’t forget your Akubra. That means frills, thrills, hats, boots, bold prints and rodeo-ready attitude. Whether you’re channelling Dolly, Shania, Beyoncé or Boss Lady Bronc Buster – this is your moment.

  • Boots are a must – Dust them off or glam them up. Fringe and embroidery score bonus points.
  • Hat’s on – A crisp Akubra, or your favourite wide-brim topper is both stylish and sun-smart.
  • Denim with a twist – Think classic cuts, bold accessories, a statement denim jacket, or double denim it right up!
  • Add sparkle – A turquoise cuff, some silver conchos or a bold earring to take your look from paddock to prosecco!
  • Leave the stilettos behind – This is still the Outback, cowgirl.

Whether you’re a local legend, first-time rodeo-goer or brunch aficionado with a flair for fabulous, Cowgirls in the Capital is where fashion meets the fence line – and the mimosas flow as freely as the conversation.

ABOUT Mount Isa Mines Rodeo – it is the largest rodeo in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the biggest in the world. It’s where champions return to defend their titles, rising stars carve their names into history, and eight electrifying seconds can feel like an eternity. For three adrenaline-fueled days, Mount Isa in Outback Queensland comes alive with the raw power of bull riding, bronc busting, barrel racing, roping and more, as the world’s toughest cowboys and cowgirls battle for some of the most coveted buckles in rodeo.
