One of Australia’s most sought after luxury resort experiences, Rumi on Louth off the coast of Port Lincoln, South Australia has gained regulatory approval for the construction of 22 new ocean-view cabins.

 

This expands the secluded island retreat’s capacity from five suites and an eight bedroom private residence, which accommodates up to 16 people.

 

The news comes after months of discussions with authorities and environmental regulators, finally giving the island the formal green light.

 

“We’re beyond thrilled to say that we’ll be expanding Rumi with even more opportunities for guests to enjoy this special and unique place,” says founder Che Metcalfe. “Since day one, we’ve prioritised sustainability in all facets of our operation, and this build will be no exception.”

 

The project is currently out to tender with builders expected to file their submissions within two weeks.

 

The first few cabins will be ready by the end of the year, with the remainder completed in early 2026.

 

The resort itself is fully off-grid, powered by solar energy and equipped with its own desalination plant. The island’s commitment to restoration and conservation is engineered to preserve the island’s natural beauty for generations to come.

 

UPCOMING DEVELOPMENTS ON RUMI

In addition to the new suites, Rumi on Louth will continue to push the boundaries of sustainable luxury with the construction of:

 

• Communal hot tubs overlooking the ocean

• Tennis courts and new walking trails around the island

• A Japanese onsen-style day spa, offering immersive relaxation rituals

• SomaOS, a bespoke hotel ‘operating system’ designed by Che: an AI-powered web app for booking dining, scheduling activities, and even identifying local flora and fauna

• The opening of Shio, a five-star Japanese cuisine restaurant with sweeping views of the ocean.
