Statue Unveiled in Mexico Honours Surfers Callum and Jake Robinson and Carter Rhoad

A moving sculpture has been unveiled at Punta San José, a beloved surf break in Baja California, to honour the memory of Australian brothers Callum and Jake Robinson and their American friend Carter Rhoad—three young men united by friendship, a deep love of the ocean, and tragically, by the manner of their passing.

Twelve months ago, during what was meant to be a weekend of surfing and camping in Mexico, Jake, Callum and Carter lost their lives in an act of unthinkable violence. In the year since, their story has touched hearts across the globe and inspired a growing movement to live with more compassion, connection, and purpose.

The newly installed sculpture—three intertwined wooden forms, each standing over six feet tall—now overlooks the sea where they spent their final days. Designed to symbolise memory, unity and the enduring power of nature, the artwork reflects the boys’ deep connection to the ocean.

Each carved trunk represents one of the surfers, evoking the image of driftwood sculpted by time and tide. Two of the pieces are intertwined at their base, symbolising the unbreakable bond between brothers Callum and Jake. The third stands alongside them, in honour of Carter. The raw, organic form invites those who pass by to pause, reflect, and feel the boys’ spirit in the wind, the waves, and the very landscape they so loved.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by surfers, local officials, representatives from the Australian Embassy and the Baja California Governor’s Office. The event concluded with a traditional paddle-out, a powerful tribute to three lives lived boldly and lost far too soon.

Martin and Debra Robinson—the heartbroken parents of Callum and Jake—described the memorial as a lasting expression of the boys’ legacy.

“This sculpture is a reminder that even though our sons are no longer with us physically, their spirits are still moving in the waves and carried by the ocean they loved,” said Martin and Debra. “We are deeply grateful to the local community for creating a space that honours their memory so beautifully.”

The sculpture has been supported by the Callum and Jake Robinson Foundation, established by the Robinson family to reflect the way the brothers lived—with joy, generosity, and an unshakable love for people and the planet. In its first year, the Foundation has backed initiatives that support diabetic athletes, promote lacrosse around the world, and protect fragile coastal ecosystems.

The Foundation’s message—Live Bigger. Shine Brighter. Love Harder.—has resonated globally, with people from all walks of life taking inspiration from Callum and Jake’s lives and choosing to live with more courage and care.

Now, on the cliffs above the ocean the statue at Punta San José stands as a permanent tribute—not only to what was lost, but to all that still live on.
