Storytelling Simplified: Workshops Help Turn Life Experiences into Published Books
WriteClick Writing Services Pty Ltd
Former journalist and storytelling coach Shoma Mittra is launching a series of writing workshops across Western Australia designed to help everyday people transform their personal experiences into lasting legacies through the power of books.
The Memories Make Me workshops will be held in Fremantle, South Perth Learning Centre, and Mandurah from April to Sept 2025, offering participants a structured approach to writing and publishing their stories. The workshops will later expand to include Broome, Bunbury and the southern regions in WA.
"Storytelling is essential to human existence," says Mittra, who serves on the board of Writing WA and has over three decades of experience in the publishing and media industry. "If our stories aren't told, future generations lose an important part of our socio-cultural history."
The workshops address a growing concern that personal and family narratives are being lost in the digital age, where experiences are often reduced to social media posts rather than thoughtfully preserved accounts.
"Books transcend time. They are our legacy to the world and will carry our spirit long after we're gone," Mittra explains. "My mission is to make the process of writing a book – from blank page to published author – as straightforward as possible."
Participants will learn key storytelling techniques, book structuring, editing principles, and publishing options. The workshops are designed for writers of all experience levels, particularly those who have valuable stories but may be intimidated by the publishing process.
"All you have to do is tell your story from the heart," Mittra emphasises. "I'll handle the technical details."
A former storytelling coach for one of Tony Robbins’ programs and a developmental editor as well as having worked with two global media houses, Mittra brings professional expertise to what she describes as deeply personal work.
"I'm a custodian of narratives, a keeper of memories that deserve to live beyond their moment," she says.
