Calling All Educators, Parents & Community Legends: Join the 30-Day Koala Challenge!

The Australian Koala Foundation’s (AKF) most pawsome ambassador, Elvis the Koala-dog, is putting out the call to teachers, parents, carers and community champions across the country to join this year’s Save the Koala Month in September.

This year’s initiative, 30 Days and 30 Ways to Help Our Favourite Fluffy Friends, is a month-long challenge designed to inspire kids and communities to step up as Koala Heroes — while having a whole lot of fun along the way.

“G’day legends! It’s me — Elvis, the official ambassador for the AKF and your number one furry fan of all things Koala,” says Elvis. “Between chasing cheeky birds and staring down the chooks, I’ve been working on something important — helping you get ready for the Koala Challenge!”

HOW IT WORKS

Over 30 days, classrooms, families, and community groups can take part in creative, hands-on activities — from tree planting and cake stalls to Koala Karaoke. Each week focuses on a different way to help Koalas:

  • Week 1: Awareness & Education
Koala facts, art competitions, writing letters to MPs, and games to spark curiosity.
  • Week 2: Helping Koala Homes
Plant native trees, go on bushwalks, and set up donation boxes in local cafés or schools.
  • Week 3: Keep Koalas Safe
PJ parties, Koala quiz nights, and spreading the word about keeping pets leashed near bushland.
  • Week 4: Koala Heroes in Action
Crafts from recycled goodies, dress-up days, Koala Karaoke, and pledging long-term support for wildlife.

Then, when you’ve nailed all 30 challenges… it’s time to throw your own Koala celebration! Gather your friends, family, or classmates, show off your Koala spirit, and celebrate all the amazing ways you’ve helped our favourite fluffy friends.

WHY IT MATTERS

Every dollar raised and every bit of awareness created during Save the Koala Month goes directly to protecting wild Koalas and their habitats. Families, classrooms, clubs, and organisations can all get involved and make a real difference:

  • Collect gold coin donations at local events
  • Host a cake sale, trivia night, or Koala Karaoke
  • Adopt a Koala as a group or class
  • Support the AKF’s Plant a Tree Program
  • Shop the Save the Koala Store (free shipping on orders over $150 during STKM)

A CALL TO ACTION

“This September, we’re calling on legends of all ages to join in,” says Elvis, the official ambassador for the AKF. “Save the Koala Month is about education, action, and hope — and together, we can secure a wild future for Koalas.”

“I’ll be cheering you on with muddy paws and a heart full of Koala love. Let’s make this the biggest, loudest, fluffiest Save the Koala Month yet!”

END
