A Sunshine Coast business that has helped fund the rescue of 35 children from sexual exploitation has been recognised at a national level, with Loanright Financial Services taking home a top industry award.
Luke Meisenhelter and Brett Nicholas of Loanright Mooloolaba were named winners of the Best Community Engagement Program at the 2026 Advisor Magazine Better Business Awards for their “Legacy Lunch” initiative.
What began as a local event celebrating women in business has grown into a powerful community-driven effort supporting the work of locally-founded international anti-trafficking organisation Destiny Rescue.
Across events held in 2024 and 2025, Legacy Lunch has raised more than $74,000, providing the necessary funds to rescue 35 children from exploitation.
Matt Whittaker from Destiny Rescue said the initiative demonstrates the impact local communities can have in addressing global issues.
“The atmosphere in the room during these events is unmistakable,” he said.
“It’s far more than an event; it’s a community choosing to stand up and take action. Luke and Brett didn’t just host a lunch, they modelled the generosity they hoped to inspire, with their own contributions directly resulting in multiple children being rescued.”
The initiative has attracted strong backing from the local business community, including Platinum Sponsor Billy J, alongside a network of Sunshine Coast organisations committed to supporting the cause.
Together, their contributions have helped ensure the “Legacy” in the event’s name translates into long-term freedom and restoration for vulnerable children.
Luke Meisenhelter said the recognition reflects the collective effort behind the initiative.
“We are beyond proud of what we have achieved for such an important cause like Destiny Rescue,” he said.
“Everyone involved in our Legacy Lunch gave their absolute all and for that we are so grateful.”
Brett Nicholas said the focus now is on building momentum and expanding the reach of the program.
“Our goal in the future will be to increase engagement, raise additional funds, and ultimately support the rescue of more children from exploitation,” he said.
Following the award win, the team is planning to grow the Legacy Lunch initiative further, with the next event scheduled for later this year.
