Swarovski Unveils Shining Tiara for Vienna Opera Ball 2025
Swarovski
VIENNA (January 17, 2025) – Today, Swarovski unveils its iconic tiara, a cherished symbol of the Vienna Opera Ball. The Austrian House, which celebrates 130 years of making the world shine bright this year, has crafted the tiaras adorning the debutantes since 1956.
This sparkling tradition holds an esteemed place in Austria’s cultural heritage – and in the legacy of Swarovski. Now, for the first time, the tiara is joined by a matching tie pin, specially created for the debutantes’ escorts to wear as the couples make their entrance together into the magnificent Vienna State Opera. This year, 144 debutantes and their partners will step into the spotlight, their matching Swarovski jewels casting a radiant glow over the opening ceremony.
Designed by Swarovski’s Global Creative Director Giovanna Engelbert, the 2025 Vienna Opera Ball tiara and tie pin represent a modern reinterpretation of Swarovski’s iconic artistry and cultural legacy. Inspired by Swarovski’s Hyperbola Infinity jewellery family and the elegance and grace of the brand’s iconic swan, Engelbert envisioned these pieces to celebrate both the timeless traditions of the Vienna Opera Ball and the individuality of each debutante.
The tiara’s infinity-inspired loops and feather-like silhouette reflect Swarovski’s mastery of crystal craftsmanship, while the gently moving center stone captures the romance and light of this historic evening. For the first time, the tiara is joined by a matching tie pin, designed to bring a sense of unity to the debutantes and their partners as they make their entrance together.
Alexis Nasard, Swarovski CEO, said: “The Swarovski tiara has illuminated this most romantic and glamorous night on the Viennese social calendar for 70 years, contributing to the spectacle of the Opera Ball while bestowing a touch of magic to generations of debutantes. As we celebrate 130 years of bringing joy to the world, we take pride in Swarovski’s enduring partnership with the Vienna Opera Ball, a collaboration that has become a cherished part of Austria’s cultural and social heritage.”
Giovanna Engelbert, Swarovski Global Creative Director, said: “For our 130th anniversary, I wanted to design something that celebrates Swarovski’s legacy while embracing the individuality of today’s debutantes. The infinity inspired loops, feather-like curves, and gently moving center stone are symbols of timeless romance and grace, reflecting the magical spirit of this night. I hope the tiara and tie pin bring joy and inspiration to the debutantes and their partners as they take part in this iconic celebration.”
Bogdan Roscic, Director Vienna State Opera, said: “At the Vienna Opera Ball, every person has the opportunity to show what a grand appearance means to them, and the results are highly individual. The impeccable debutantes and their escorts master this perfectly, traditionally wearing the Swarovski tiaras. We are once again delighted to collaborate with Swarovski and look forward to this special moment.”
The 2025 Swarovski Vienna Opera Ball tiara and tie pin pay tribute to the House’s iconic Swan logo. The tiara’s prong-set baguette and round cut Swarovski Zirconia form graceful loops to evoke feathers or a swan floating on the water, while eight pear drop crystals surround a suspended central stone that dances to capture the light with every movement. Each shining tiara is hand-set with 233 zirconia and crystal stones and took Swarovski’s skilled craftspeople a day to create.
The central feather, with its suspended pear drop stone, is replicated in the gender-inclusive matching tie pin specially created for the escorts, which is crafted with 113 clear zirconia and crystal stones in a variety of cuts and effects.
The Swarovski tiara is a symbol of the unique savoir-faire that lies at the heart of the Austrian House’s creations and its 130-year history of bringing joy to the world.
This year the diadem and matching pin will be displayed in a special celebratory installation at the Swarovski Kristallwelten Store in Vienna from January 17 to March 8, 2025, allowing customers to experience at first hand the artistry and joyful spirit that Swarovski brings to the Opera Ball.
The Vienna Opera Ball takes place at the Vienna State Opera on February 27, 2025.
