Sydney's Largest Immersive Horror Experience
Set to Transform Cockatoo Island
Featuring more than 30 live performers, over 100 scare moments
and Australia's newest immersive horror dinner experience.
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – This August, one of Sydney's most iconic and mysterious landmarks will be
transformed into a terrifying world of immersive horror as Fear Island takes over Cockatoo Island for
three unforgettable nights.
Running from 28–30 August 2026, Fear Island will feature more than 30 live performers, over 100
individual scare moments and two completely different live horror tunnel experiences, creating what
is set to become Sydney's largest immersive horror experience.
Accessible only by ferry, guests begin their journey the moment they arrive on Cockatoo Island before
stepping into a world where the line between fiction and reality quickly disappears.
Unlike traditional haunted attractions, Fear Island has been designed as a complete horror destination
where visitors are encouraged to spend the evening exploring the island, uncovering hidden mysteries,
meeting terrifying characters and becoming part of the unfolding story.
Two Tunnels. One Island. Endless Fear.
At the heart of the event is Fear Island: The Tunnels of Terror.
Guests will navigate two separate live horror tunnel experiences, each featuring its own story line,
horrifying characters, immersive theatrical scenes and relentless scares.
With more than 100 scare moments hidden throughout the experience, no two journeys through the
tunnels will ever feel the same.
Guests may even return for a second journey through the tunnels during their visit, subject to
availability.
More Than A Haunted Attraction
Fear Island has been created as a complete horror precinct, encouraging guests to arrive early or stay
after their tunnel session to experience a range of immersive attractions including:
• Ghost Stories of Fear Island by firelight
• More than 30 live roaming performers and creatures
• Live contortionist performances
• The Fear Island 360 Horror Booth
• Horror photo opportunities
• Fear Island Fortune Cards
• Fear Island Death Certificates
• The Missing Persons Wall
• Best Dressed Competitions
• The Warden's Lost Key Treasure Hunt
• Horror-themed food and beverages including a complimentary Horror Dog with every admission ticket
• Pizza truck, dessert truck, café, restaurant and licensed bar
A Brand-New Horror Dining Experience
Making its debut in 2026 is Fear Island: The Thriller Dinner.
This premium 18+ immersive dining experience combines theatrical horror, interactive storytelling and
premium dining in one unforgettable evening.
Guests will be welcomed with a themed cocktail before enjoying shared entrée platters, The Warden's
Feast spit roast banquet and shared desserts while live characters move throughout the room and the
story unfolds around them.
Rather than simply watching the performance, guests become part of the experience.
The Hunt Begins Before Opening Night
Fear Island also introduces The Warden's Lost Key, an interactive island-wide treasure hunt that begins
one week before the event.
Each day, new clues will be released across Fear Island's Facebook and Instagram pages, encouraging
ticket holders to solve riddles, research Cockatoo Island and prepare for the hunt.
On event night, somewhere on the island, The Warden's Lost Key will be waiting.
The first guest to discover it will take home a prize pool that grows as tickets are sold.
Dress To Terrify
Guests are encouraged to embrace the experience by dressing in costume.
The coveted title of Grand Champion of Fear Island will be awarded alongside nightly prizes, spot
prizes and giveaways throughout the weekend.
Creating Sydney's Next Signature Horror Event
Event Director Monique Annetts said Fear Island had been created to offer Australians something they
had never experienced before.
"People don't just buy a ticket to walk through a haunted tunnel anymore—they
want to be completely immersed. Fear Island has been designed as a destination
where guests arrive by ferry, explore Cockatoo Island after dark, experience two
terrifying tunnel adventures, gather around ghost stories by firelight and become
part of the story themselves."
"Our vision is to create an annual event that horror fans from across Australia will
travel to Sydney to experience. Cockatoo Island provides one of the most
atmospheric locations in the country, and we've designed Fear Island to embrace
that history rather than compete with it."
