Sydney's Newest Night Out Is Equal Parts Horror Attraction, Immersive Theatre and Cocktail Experience
Hype Haus Media
- Fear Island is a fully immersive after-dark horror experience taking place on Sydney's Cockatoo Island across three nights only, from 28–30 August 2026, combining live horror tunnels, roaming performers, ghost stories, themed food and drinks, and immersive theatre.
- The headline attraction features two distinct live horror tunnel experiences containing over 100 individual scare moments, with more than 30 live performers, designed to offer a complete night out rather than a standalone haunted house attraction.
- A premium adults-only Thriller Dinner experience launches alongside the tunnels, blending immersive theatre with a shared banquet dinner where guests become part of an unfolding horror story, welcomed with a themed cocktail and treated to a multi-course feast.
- A treasure hunt called The Warden's Lost Key begins one week before opening night, with daily clues released on social media challenging guests to solve riddles, with the first person to find the hidden key on the island winning a prize pool that grows with every ticket sold.
- Tickets are accessible via ferry only, and the event includes additional entertainment such as ghost stories by firelight, a 360 horror photo booth, best dressed competitions, live contortionist performances, a licensed bar, and a complimentary horror hot dog with every admission ticket.
Sydney's Newest Night Out Is Equal Parts Horror
Attraction, Immersive Theatre and Cocktail
Experience
Fear Island is turning Cockatoo Island into Australia's most
immersive horror destination this August.
Forget everything you know about haunted houses.
This August, Sydney's historic Cockatoo Island will become home to Fear Island, a completely
immersive after-dark experience combining terrifying live horror tunnels, ghost stories, roaming
performers, themed food and drinks, immersive theatre and a brand-new horror dinner experience.
Running for three nights only from 28–30 August 2026, Fear Island has been designed as a complete
night out rather than simply a horror attraction.
Visitors arrive by ferry before stepping into a world where mysterious disappearances, unsettling
characters and chilling legends transform one of Sydney's most iconic locations into a living horror
story.
Two Tunnel Experiences. One Haunted Island.
The headline attraction is Fear Island: The Tunnels of Terror.
Guests journey through two completely different live horror tunnel experiences, each filled with
terrifying performers, immersive sets and over 100 individual scare moments.
But unlike traditional haunted attractions, the experience doesn't end when you leave the tunnels.
Stay For The Night Fear Island has been designed to encourage guests to spend the evening exploring Cockatoo Island at their own pace.
Visitors can gather around Ghost Stories of Fear Island by firelight, encounter roaming horror performers, meet unsettling creatures wandering the precinct, pose for unforgettable horror photos, receive a Fear Island Fortune Card, collect a personalised Death Certificate and even search for The Warden's Lost Key, a mystery that begins one week before opening night through daily clues released on social media.
Throughout the evening guests can enjoy:
• Ghost Stories by firelight
• Live roaming horror performers
• Live contortionist performances
• The Fear Island 360 Horror Booth
• Horror photo installations
• Best Dressed competitions
• Pizza, desserts and licensed bar
• Complimentary Horror Dog with every admission ticket
A Dinner Party You Won't Survive
Launching alongside the tunnels is Fear Island: The Thriller Dinner.
This premium adults-only experience blends immersive theatre with a shared banquet dinner where the line between audience and performers disappears.
Guests are welcomed with a themed cocktail before enjoying shared entrée platters, The Warden's
Feast spit roast banquet and dessert while mysterious characters move through the room and a horrifying story unfolds around them.
Rather than watching a performance, diners become part of it.
Hunt For The Warden's Lost Key
Fear Island is also introducing one of the most unique event experiences Sydney has seen.
Beginning one week before opening night, clues will be released daily across Facebook and Instagram, challenging guests to solve riddles before arriving. Hidden somewhere on Cockatoo Island will be The Warden's Lost Key.
The first person to discover it wins a prize pool that grows every time another ticket is sold.
A New Annual Sydney Tradition Fear Island creator Monique Annetts said the event was designed for people wanting something completely different.
"People are looking for experiences they can actually be part of, not just watch. Fear
Island combines horror, theatre, food, storytelling and one of Sydney's most incredible
locations into a night that guests will be talking about long after they catch the ferry
home."
"Whether you're chasing adrenaline, celebrating with friends, dressing up in costume or
simply looking for one of Sydney's most unique nights out, Fear Island has something
waiting for you."
