SYDNEY/MELBOURNE, 24 August 2026 Pottery, run clubs, life drawing: the “cool-girl hobby” list has been building for a year. Floristry is the newest addition, and Fig & Bloom's Flower Club Workshop is leading it - a monthly, sold-out evening event where strangers arrive with one free night and leave with a finished arrangement, a new skill, and usually a few new numbers in their phone.
The format is simple: one long table, a glass (or two) of wine, and an armful of market-fresh stems. Fig & Bloom supplies the flowers, tools, technique and a florist to lead, meaning no experience required. What happens next is less flower class, more the creative girl’s answer to the supper club.
“You don’t need experience, just one free evening,” says Kellie, co-founder of Fig & Bloom. “We bring the stems, the tools, the technique, and a florist beside you the whole way. The rest of the table brings itself. People arrive saying they’re not creative. They leave carrying proof that they are.”
Unlike a typical floristry class, the workshop is designed around connection rather than instruction, a response to growing demand for low-pressure, screen-free social formats among people tired of dating apps and default nights out. It's part of a broader shift toward “third places”, social settings outside home and work, and a wider cultural embrace of hands-on hobbies as a status marker as much as a pastime.
Guests leave with an arrangement, a new skill, and a table of people they didn't know at six. Fig & Bloom has previously been featured in frankie, body+soul and WHO.
