Sydney Musical & Opera Society will present An Evening with Rodgers & Hammerstein, a sweeping orchestral celebration of Broadway’s Golden Age, across three major performances in 2026 at Glen Street Theatre, Belrose, Pavilion Performing Arts Centre, Sutherland, and IPAC Wollongong.
Following its successful performances aboard Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth, this richly staged concert event brings together the timeless music of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Featuring songs from The Sound of Music, South Pacific, Oklahoma!, Carousel and The King and I, the production offers audiences an uplifting journey through some of the most beloved scores ever written.
With seven principal vocalists, a full ensemble and choir, and a magnificent 23-piece orchestra, An Evening with Rodgers & Hammerstein goes well beyond a traditional concert presentation. Enhanced by immersive projections, elegant period-inspired costuming and refined choreography, the production balances intimacy with spectacular scale.
The concert is presented in the year marking the 75th anniversary of The King and I, and the Sutherland season will also form part of the Pavilion Performing Arts Centre’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, adding a further sense of occasion to this major presentation. These milestone anniversaries make the 2026 season a fitting tribute to the enduring legacy of Rodgers & Hammerstein.
Audiences will experience beloved classics including The Sound of Music, Some Enchanted Evening, If I Loved You, You’ll Never Walk Alone, Hello, Young Lovers, People Will Say We’re in Love, Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’, Younger than Springtime, Wonderful Guy, My Favourite Things and Climb Ev’ry Mountain, performed with full orchestral richness. These titles are drawn directly from the repertoire highlighted across your existing Glen Street and Pavilion releases.
The production is directed by Kate Maree Hoolihan, whose credits include the Julie Andrews-led production of My Fair Lady for Opera Australia, and features acclaimed performer April Marie Naho, who appeared as Bloody Mary in the professional production of South Pacific.
With soaring melodies, heartfelt storytelling and the grandeur of a full orchestra, An Evening with Rodgers & Hammerstein promises to be one of the standout musical theatre events of 2026 - a moving and nostalgic celebration of Broadway’s Golden Age for audiences across generations.
