Threads in Time: Designers and personalities step up for young Australians with cancer

Children's Cancer Foundation

Some of Australia’s best-known fashion brands and best-dressed personalities are uniting to raise vital funds for young cancer patients through Threads in Time — a new online fashion auction launched by the Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF).

The auction features exclusive garments and accessories donated by Julie Bishop, Bec Judd, Annabel Crabb, Allegra Spender, Jo Hall, Livinia Nixon, Zoë Foster Blake and Fiona Patten as well as leading fashion labels Aje, Leo Lin, Ford Millinery, Viceta Wang and Alin Le’Kal.

Funds raised will support In Time — a national fertility preservation program delivered by The Royal Women’s Hospital, with support from charities including the CCF.

Threads in Time bidding commences at 8am on Saturday 22 November and closes at 8pm on Sunday 23 November.

Launched in December 2024 and backed by $6.4 million in funding, In Time gives children and young people with cancer (up to 24 years) access to fertility preservation free of charge. The program aims to reach around 1,000 young Australians over five years through three key pillars:

  • Treatment access: national ovarian and testicular tissue collection, transport and cryopreservation.
  • Education: training clinicians across Australia to offer the service.
  • Research: advancing technologies such as testicular tissue preservation and in-vitro maturation (IVM) to improve future outcomes.

“Many children who survive cancer face lifelong health challenges, including infertility caused by the toxicity of treatment,” said Jaala Pulford, Chair of the Children’s Cancer Foundation.

“Every bid received by Threads in Time helps give young cancer survivors the chance to build the families they once feared might not be possible. This auction is about hope, resilience, and the generosity of people across Australia who want to make a difference.”

Dr Genia Rozen, Co-Director of In Time and fertility specialist at the Royal Women’s Hospital, said: “Every child with cancer should have the chance to preserve their fertility, no matter where they live in Australia. For parents facing the shock of a childhood cancer diagnosis, the chance to preserve fertility offers a rare moment of optimism about their child’s future.”

For many young patients, traditional egg or sperm freezing isn’t possible because treatment must begin urgently or they haven’t reached puberty. In these cases, In Time provides ovarian or testicular tissue cryopreservation — a pioneering procedure in which tissue is removed, frozen and stored for potential use later to restore fertility.

As a special thank you, Ford Millinery and Viceta Wang will offer exclusive discounts to everyone who places a bid during the auction.
