TPB Annual Report 2025-26: Strengthening consumer protection and supporting tax practitioners

Tax Practitioners Board

The Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) has published its 2025-26 Annual Report, highlighting its work to protect consumers, support tax practitioners and strengthen the integrity of the tax system and profession.

Throughout 2025-26, the TPB continued to target higher-risk behaviour and take action against tax practitioners who failed to meet their obligations, while providing practical guidance, education and improved services to help tax practitioners comply.

TPB Chair, Peter de Cure AM, said the Annual Report demonstrates the TPB’s continued focus on protecting the public while supporting a strong and trusted tax profession.

‘Our work is focused on protecting consumers and maintaining confidence in the tax profession and tax system. We seek to achieve this by providing tax practitioners with the guidance and services they need to assist them to meet their professional obligations and by taking strong regulatory action where appropriate.’

Key highlights from the 2025-26 Annual Report include:

  • providing practical guidance and education, with 10 new guidance products and 15 webinars attracting more than 61,000 attendances, with 97% of surveyed attendees reporting improved knowledge and understanding
  • delivering timely registration services, by processing 98% of new and renewal applications within 30 days, exceeding service standards
  • supporting consumers, by contacting more than 32,000 clients of approximately 60 terminated tax practitioners through the Client Support Program
  • improving digital services, including implementing Digital ID for My Profile and enhancing the TPB Public Register
  • publishing our compliance priorities for the first time, and imposing 162 compliance sanctions following investigations.

Mr de Cure also acknowledged the important contribution of tax practitioners, professional associations, government agencies and the broader community to the TPB’s work.

‘We value our relationships with the tax profession, our partners and the community, and will continue to work together to promote high professional standards, address misconduct and support confidence in Australia’s tax system.’

The TPB Annual Report 2025-26 provides further information on the TPB’s activities, outcomes and performance during the year.
