Two million Return and Earn containers donated to Jeans for Genes
Return and Earn
Over $210,000 has been raised to support scientific research into treatments and cures for children’s genetic conditions, thanks to Return and Earn recyclers.
Recyclers embraced the Jeans for Genes fundraising campaign, sharing the 10c refund from more than 2 million containers during the six-month campaign.
The money raised by recycling eligible drink containers through Return and Earn will be used to fund research by Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI), the team behind Jeans for Genes, who aim to make the incurable, curable.
Currently, 1 in 20 children faces a birth defect or genetic disease.
Some of CMRI’s recent achievements include being part of a world-first gene therapy trial which is giving hope for families living with rare genetic conditions and finding a promising new way to treat some of the most aggressive children’s cancers.
The donations from Return and Earn recyclers will continue to support research into conditions such as cystic fibrosis, Duchenne muscular dystrophy and cancer.
Return and Earn has become a key fundraising channel for many charities and community groups in NSW.
Return and Earn is a NSW Government initiative delivered in partnership between the NSW Environment Protection Authority, scheme coordinator Exchange for Change and network operator TOMRA Cleanaway.
