Victorian Chamber and Microsoft launch AI Enablement Program to build SME capability and power Australia's AI economy

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is proud to announce a groundbreaking partnership with Microsoft to deliver the AI Workshop Series for SME Enablement – a new initiative designed to equip small and medium businesses thrive across Victoria with the skills to confidently adopt and apply artificial intelligence.

This initiative is part of the Victorian Chamber’s broader commitment to support SME growth and enablement through the THRIVE program and forms part of Microsoft’s broader AI Skills Initiative, which aims to equip one million people across Australia and New Zealand with essential AI knowledge. The Victorian Chamber is leading the charge, delivering practical, accessible and business-centric training tailored to the needs of time-poor SMEs.

The AI Workshop Series offers a clear, structured pathway to AI capability - from free webinars and self-paced learning to interactive in-person workshops and drop-in clinics.  The program is designed to help businesses drive productivity, reduce administrative load, upskill staff and boost growth using AI tools.

With small and medium businesses contributing significantly to Australia’s economy, this initiative positions Victoria at the forefront of national efforts to build AI capability in the private sector.

Insights from the Victorian Chamber’s 2024 Business Pulse survey - a comprehensive snapshot of the goals and challenges facing Victorian businesses – revealed a surge in interest in AI across the business community. For the first time, thirty-six per cent of Victorian businesses expressed interest to learn how AI can support growth and improve operations – a clear signal that the time for action is now.

As we enter the Fourth Industrial Revolution, AI is reshaping the way we live and work. With the potential to deliver $115 billion in economic value and create up to 200,000 new jobs – both technical and non-technical – by 2030, Australia must accelerate its AI readiness. Yet, the nation currently ranks 30 out of 36 countries on the global AI competitiveness index.

The Victorian Chamber and Microsoft are committed to changing that by making AI training relevant, simple, and business-centric. The program is not just for tech experts; it’s for everyday business owners, leaders and employees who want to solve real problems and build stronger businesses.

This program is about turning curiosity into capability – helping business owners and their teams understand AI and apply it practically, with support every step of the way.”

“Together with Microsoft, we are delivering training that’s relevant, accessible and practical – because skills are the key to unlocking the power of AI. This initiative also aligns with our broader commitment to building resilient, future-ready businesses through the THRIVE program, which supports capability-building, innovation and practical enablement across Victoria.”
