MAY THE 4TH BE WITH US

Visitor Engagement Lightsaber Hit at Melbourne Museum.

Ahead of the opening of the Star Wars Exhibition this Sunday Museums Victoria plans to merge VEO's with security staff.

VEO's are the heart of Melbourne Museums.

VEO's offer hands-on learning, exhibit insights, and unforgettable visitor experiences.

The Museum is cutting these jobs.

What’s being lost?

12.2 full-time equivalent roles cut
464 hours per week lost from services to the Victorian public
Part-time and full-time hours will be cut

This is not workable.

VEO's engage, educate and inspire.

Security guards protect, monitor, and enforce.

These are distinct roles — combining them weakens both.

Over 50% of visitors rely on VEO's to enhance their visit (Museum Visitor Survey, 2019).

Replacing VEO's with dual-role staff will damage the museum experience.

The proposal will reduce cultural engagement and backfire badly on one of our premium Arts Institutions.

We must all protect the VEO role — for quality, education, and the future of our museums.

Don’t cut what makes our museums great.

Keep VEO's doing what they do best.
