Australia's first mini-excavator park is celebrating its second birthday with a weekend of earth-shaking fun, special surprises, and sweet treats – and everyone’s invited to dig in!

 

Over the weekend of May 10 and 11 (that’s Mother’s Day for anyone who may have forgotten!), Dig IT at Thunderbird Park on Tamborine Mountain will be buzzing with dirt-digging joy as the team marks two years of the ‘Best Day Ever’, just an hour from the Gold Coast and Brisbane – and yes, there’ll be cupcakes 😃, as well as ……

After opening like a wrecking ball two years ago, Dig IT has welcomed over 200,000 visitors who’ve experienced the joy of operating real 1.7-tonne CAT mini-excavators (yep – real ones!) in an outdoor construction zone that’s become the stuff of childhood legend. Kids wear hard hats and high vis gear, and sit in the driver’s seat alone or on the lap of their parent or carer, to try a range of skills, from digging up the dirt, to using a claw to stack and move tyres, or using a hook to catch pesky ‘crocs!

 

“We’re still blown away by the reaction – it’s smiles for miles out here every weekend,” said Dig IT co-founder Kate Keegan. “There’s nothing like watching kids put on their hard hats and high viz, climb into the cab, and take control of their own digger. It’s fun, educational, screen-free and totally unique. The mile-wide smiles on kids and grown-ups are proof that digging in the dirt never gets old.”

 

In just two years, Dig IT’s nine Queensland-built mini-excavators have clocked more than 3 million minutes of digging, lifting, stacking and demolition – including almost a million toppled blocks in the fan-fave Demolition Zone.

 

The birthday bash promises to be a memory-maker, with limited edition Dig IT cupcakes, face painting, hands-on fun for the whole family, and all the usual dirt-loving goodness – think digging, clawing, stacking, crocodile catching and construction-themed chaos.
