Step into a world of rule-breakers, trailblazers and women who refused to stay quiet.

Brisbane audiences are invited to experience a powerful celebration of fearless women as Footlights Theatrical Inc presents Well-Behaved Women, with performances raising funds for DVConnect.

Running for a limited season from 5–6 June at PIP Theatre, Milton, the contemporary musical revue by Australian-born, Grammy Award-winning composer and lyricist Carmel Dean shines a spotlight on the extraordinary women across history who refused to follow the rules - and changed the world because of it.

Featuring an all-star cast of some of Southeast Queensland’s most exciting musical theatre talent, Well-Behaved Women brings to life the stories of artists and activists, athletes and warriors, queens and mothers, through a bold and emotionally charged song cycle that is equal parts empowering, humorous and deeply human.

Through characters including Frida Kahlo and Cleopatra to Mary Magdalene, Cathy Freeman, and even Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, the production offers a thought-provoking theatre experience, highlighting voices that have shaped history and continue to inspire today.

Performances also support Queensland service DVConnect, helping raise awareness of the importance of women supporting women and standing up against violence and abuse.

Audiences will have the opportunity to donate via QR codes available at the theatre, supporting vital services for those in need.

As part of the season, a special preview performance will be held on June 4, with invited guests given the opportunity to attend by making a minimum $10 donation to DVConnect in lieu of a standard ticket price - further supporting the important work of the organisation. 

Director Roslyn Johnson said the production offered a meaningful opportunity to combine storytelling with impact.

“Well-Behaved Women is a celebration of strength, resilience and individuality. These are stories that deserve to be heard, and we’re proud to bring them to Brisbane audiences while also supporting the vital work of DVConnect,” she said.

“Theatre has a unique ability to connect people, and this production is about more than what happens on stage - it’s about coming together to support others and spark important conversations.”

Audiences are encouraged to give generously at performances, with all donations going directly to DVConnect.
