The Spring school holidays are the perfect time to explore Ipswich...

Here's a few events and activities to keep the kids entertained.

Imagine and APT Kids on Tour at Ipswich Art Gallery 

These school holidays, families can enjoy free hands-on art activities as part of the Ipswich Art Gallery Kids exhibition ‘Imagine…’, in the interactive Children’s Gallery. With all materials provided, young visitors are invited to explore and respond to the IAG Collection through their own creative making. 

Plus, don’t miss ‘Asia Pacific Triennial Kids on Tour’, developed by the QAGOMA Children’s Art Centre and a perfect way to keep little hands and minds busy!

Asia Pacific Triennial Kids on Tour will be running next door at the Ipswich Art Workshop from 10am – 2pm, Monday 29 September to Friday 3 October.

Dinosaur Discovery

Stop into Tulmur Place to see roarsome interactive dinosaur displays! Dinosaur Discovery is free and will run from 22 September until 4 October from 10am-2pm daily.

Live shows from Dinosaur Train characters, plus photo opportunities, meet and greets, as well as face painting and markets will also be available from 25 September to 30 September. 

Libraries will feature fossils, wildlife, knights and more

Ipswich Libraries are running an epic school holiday program with wildlife, fossils, knights and more!

During the holidays discover prehistoric wonders hidden amongst the shelves at all Ipswich Libraries branches, including the Ipswich Children’s Library.

On September 22 you can Road-Test a Robot and do an eWaste workshop, a Butterfly conservation Drop-In will be held on 26 September.

Discover Queensland Museum specimens at a Fossil Finds Drop-In session at the Ipswich Children’s Library on 29 September.

See a Wildlife Unleased Conservation Show on October 1 at 1 Nicholas Street (the same show runs on 24 September at Springfield Central Library).

An Egyptian Sarcophagus Workshop will be held at 1 Nicholas Street on 2 October and a Shields and Heraldry Workshop will be held on 3 October.

Basketball World

These holidays you can test out your basketball skills and meet Basketball Man at Basketball World at Riverlink.

Basketball Man, a dynamic freestyle performer hailing from Troy, New York will perform four 20 minute shows daily at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm.

His show is a high-energy blend of athleticism, comedy, and world-class freestyle tricks. From gravity-defying stunts to hilarious crowd interactions, he’s an all-ages favourite who keeps everyone on the edge of their seats.

More than just a performer, Basketball Man is a global ambassador of joy—bringing smiles, laughter, and some seriously slick moves wherever he goes.

Interactive games available include basketball connect four, reflex reaction wall, arcade basketball machine and vending hoops.

Find Basketball World Outside iPlay from 10am – 2pm, Monday 22 September until Friday 3 October.

Dog rescue at Stony Creek Brewing

Stony Creek Brewing is hosting a day for dog lovers on Sunday 28 September.

The dog-friendly venue is running an Adopt-a-Dog Rescue Sunday with Promising Paws Inc.

There will be dogs you can adopt, toys and doggy treats to purchase, plus burgers and drinks available.

Ipswich Nature Centre tours

The Ipswich Nature Centre in Queens Park is an unmissable experience for any visitor, as it is home to many animals including bilbies, dingoes, wallabies, a wombat, and also features a walk-through bird aviary.

The Ipswich Nature Centre is the only free zoo in south east Queensland, so you and your family can stay as long as you like, or come back whenever you feel like seeing those cute little faces again. They are open seven days a week during the school holidays.

There will be a special guided tour on Wednesday 24 September followed by a book launch with Brisbane author Meredith Downes to celebrate her book Liam the Chid and the Kangaroo Warriors. Cost for the guided tour is $5 per person.

Seussical Jr. The Musical

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers.

See Seussical JR, on the Ipswich Civic Centre stage Wednesday 24 September and Thursday 25 September from 11am-12.30pm and 6pm-7.30pm.

Eco friendly holiday workshops

These school holidays kids can make seed surprises and a mini worm farm!

Sustainable Ipswich is hosting the free events (registration essential) at the Queens Park Environmental Education Centre on Thursday September 25 and Friday September 26.

Seed surprises are a chance for kids to get their hands dirty with native seeds they can take home and the mini worm farm workshop will have them dig and discover live worms and take home a mini farm of their own.

Nerf battles, paintball and gel blasters

Spec Ops Paintball will be open just in time for the school holidays! It is taking over the reins from Hardcore Blasters, offering Nerf battles, paintball and gel blaster fun.

The best bit is Ipswich residents get 20% off during the holidays, use the code IPSWICH20 to activate the offer.

$20 GOLD and $10 regular kids tickets at Limelight

These holidays enjoy family passes at Limelight with tickets starting from $10, plus kids can experience the luxury of GOLD for $20 for an elevated experience!

Showing these holidays is a great Aussie film called Kangaroo, based on a true story of a man who has a roo sanctuary, there is also The Bad Guys 2, Gabby’s Dollhouse The Movie, Sketch and Dora Mermaid Adventures.

A special Little Gabby Cats screening will be held for little ones who are yet to venture to the big screen, or might get overwhelmed by a big dark room and loud noises. The sound will be lowered and the lights remain dimmed to create a more comfortable environment for them. There will be the opportunity to craft Gabby Cat Head Bands prior to the movie and all kids will receive a My First Cinema Experience Certificate after the movie.

Towards the end of the holidays the original Mean Girls will be screened on official Mean Girls Day – October 3. This session will be held as part of the Crafty Classics series where guests are invited to bring their craft projects along for a fun experience in the GOLD cinemas.

School holiday fun day at Soul Nook

These holidays, The Soul Nook Collective are celebrating with a Holiday Fun Day on Tuesday 23 September and Thursday 2 October from 10am-1pm.

There will be crown workshops, fairy visits, free face painting and other activities.

Heritage family fun day

The Cooneana Heritage Centre is hosting a family fun day these school holidays. The are fun for the whole family to enjoy with old-fashioned games, veteran trucks and cars on show.

You can see the blacksmiths at work, walk through the museum and see the Cooneana Homestead. Help find the possum Nea and find items on display for a prize.

Also find out about Ipswich’s dinosaurs and see a footprint!  There will be live music on the day by Ally and Sarah, food and drinks.

Ramp camps

RampAttack will be running scooter and skate camps during the holidays. Scooter and skate camps run Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday in both weeks of the holidays for all ages and skill levels.

The lessons are available for either a half-day or full-day with morning tea and lunch provided.

Included is all food and drink, gear if needed as well as fun games and expert tips.

See the dinos, pet and feed the animals

The Ewe Nique Hobby Farm will be open every day during the school holidays (except for Tuesdays) for you to feed and pet the farm animals and have a coffee in the Baa Baa Cafe. Their new dinosaur experience is also open full of replica dinosaurs, birds and fish!

Enjoy two sessions each day, either 9am or 10.30am and meet the gorgeous baby lambs and goats!

Walking tours for children

There are two engaging bushwalking activities for children being run during the Spring school holidays!

On Wednesday 1 October, kids aged 8 and up can explore Haig Street Quarry at 4.15pm. This is a spotlight walk where kids can discover the forest at night.

The second is a nature photography session for beginners at Kholo Gardens on Friday October 3 at 9.45am.

Visit The Llama Farm

You can visit Queensland’s largest herd of llamas these holidays.

The Llama Farm is not only home to llamas, but also giant rabbits, donkeys, goats, chickens, peacocks, ponies and camels.

Meet the animals on a Faces of the Farm tour at 9am on weekend tour days or book in for a llama walk at 3pm on weekends.

A special Little Llama Farmers Children’s Workshop will be held on Thursday 2 October.

Free ice cream and face painting at Brothers

These school holidays there is free school holiday fun at Brothers.

On Monday 29 September from 3.30pm-5.30pm kids can enjoy a free ice cream and face painting. The play room will be open all day and kids eat free with the purchase of a full priced adult meal for lunch and dinner.
