WILL WONG SEEK JUSTICE FOR SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT — OR SIDE WITH THE PERPETRATORS?

Australian survivors of sexual assault, torture and abuse during Israel's attack on Flotilla participants will address the media immediately following their meeting with Foreign Minister Penny Wong.

The meeting today from 4.00 to 5.00 pm comes after weeks of public pressure and calls for the Australian Government to meet with survivors and hear directly what happened to Australian citizens.

Foreign Minister Wong has publicly stated that she believes survivors. Survivors welcome that statement. But believing survivors is only the first step. Investigation is the second. Justice is the third.

The delegation will seek clear commitments from the Australian Government, including:

• An independent Australian investigation into the crimes committed against Australian citizens.

• Action against the Israeli Ambassador, who survivors say victim-blamed them, gaslit Australians and caused further harm by denying and minimising what happened. Survivors say he should apologise to the Australian public or be dismissed.

• An end to the supply of taxpayer-funded weapons, components and parts for those responsible for torture, sexual violence and other serious abuses.

The flotilla members from the Australian delegation were taken hostage when boats carrying aid were boarded in international waters.

The delegation will provide an update on what commitments were made, what commitments were refused, and what happens next.

As survivors have repeatedly stated:

"Survivors deserve to not just be heard, survivors deserve justice."
